Jake Irwin
Endurance Coach

With over 30 years of running and racing experience, I have done just about every race that you can think of from the 100-meter sprint to the marathon. I still remember my first race when I was 9 years old, it was a 400 meter run around a dirt track in my tiny little town in Northern California. However, it was also the race that would hook me in to a lifelong running Journey.

In High School I would compete at the varsity level in both Cross Country and Track, all four years of School. During that Time, I qualified for both divisional and sectionals in the mile and the 5k, as well as qualifying for the State Championships two of those years in Cross Country.

I would eventually start my College Career in Redding, CA, where I attended Shasta College. Here I competed again in both Cross Country and Track as both a miler and a 5k Athlete. I later transferred to Sacramento State University where I would study Kinesiology and therapeutic recreation with an emphasis on using sport and exercise as a form of therapy. During this time, I began running for local clubs where I would increase my distances in racing to the 5k, 10k, half marathon and the full marathon.

During my training I began coaching for other sports including the special Olympics, power soccer (soccer for individuals in Wheel Chairs), Goal Ball (soccer for the visually impaired), and running nightly sports programs for individuals with Disabilities.

10 years ago I made the decision to Move to New York. During this time, I ended up taking time off of running for about 5 years. When I finally decided to start racing again, I was devastated to discover that I was no longer the athlete I was when I was in college. But I knew that I had the ability to get back to where I was 5 years prior.

So I began coaching myself back in to running and racing form. Since then I have competed in and qualified for many races at a high level including…

  • 2018 Boston Marathon Finisher
  • 2021 Boston marathon Qualifier
  • 2020 Chicago Marathon Guaranteed Entry Qualifier
  • 2 Times Hudson Mohawk Marathon Finisher
  • 2 Time Hannaford Half Marathon Finisher
  • 2018 Race the Lake Half Marathon Finisher (Cooperstown, NY)
  • 2019 Race the Lake Half Marathon Division Winner and 5th Place Over all
  • Providence Rhode Island Marathon Finisher
  • 3 Time Athlete at the Chicago Triathlon as part of a Relay Team
  • 2019 Nashville Rock N’Roll Half Marathon Finisher
  • 2020 Disney Half Marathon Finisher, 28th overall out of over 26,000 runners
  • 2019 Boilermaker 15k Finisher (Largest 15k in the country)

Plus too many 5ks and 10ks to count, many of which include over all 1st place finishes and division placements.

I have also competed on various Teams for the Ragnar Relays and Virtual Running events. Totaling over 400 races throughout my 30-year career.

All in all I have ran in almost every state via my training or my racing. Now at the age of 39 I am preparing for exciting races such as the Khon Kaen International Marathon in Thailand, the 2021 NYC Marathon, and the JFK 50 Mile Ultra.

As I continue my training, I love sharing my knowledge and experience with others by helping them train for whatever goal they have in mind. Along my journey so far I have developed many friendships throughout the running community, seen many amazing places, and continue to inspire to learn all that the world of Running has to offer.
